Spinal Injuries

Spinal Injuries can occur by trauma such as a road traffic accident or sporting accident. It can also be caused by a chronic condition or a progressive disorder. Spinal injury can cause impairment of mobility, function and sensation and in general, spinal injuries are life-altering events.

Spinal Injuries And Medical Negligence

Medical negligence can be a factor in the worsening or even the cause of certain spinal injuries. We previously acted in a case of cauda equina syndrome where “red flag” symptoms were missed and a diagnosis of chronic muscular pain was made. Due to the negligent delay in diagnosing Cauda Equina Syndrome, the syndrome progressed resulting in paralysis. This paralysis would have been avoided had decompression surgery being carried out following admission.
